I have updated your grades. I always update your grades on the weekend, so it's a good habit to check your grade on Monday morning when you get to school, to see if your grade has gone up or gone down.
Some of you earned 100 points of extra credit for making flashcards—but I forgot to bring that grading sheet home with me, so your current grade on Synergy does not include the 100 points you may have earned by making flashcards.) But don't worry, I will include those points when I update grades next weekend.
Here are the things that we need to accomplish this week:
You need to take the Reading Inventory test. We're going to do this in class.
You need to take the Grammar Test. This test is in two parts:
Lesson 2.1 (Test A: Identify the Preposition)
Lesson 2.2 (Test B: Identify the Glue Word)
You need to do the unit called Warming Up Your Writing Muscles (Lessons 1.21 – 1.31)
I have tweaked my grading system.
Reading pages are now worth 1 point per page (instead of 2 points per page).
Your writing portfolio is now worth 1 point for every 10 words (instead of 2 points for every ten words).
This change does not affect much, except:
Your extra-credit slips are now worth twice as much! Before, an extra-credit slip (worth 20 points) was equivalent to a 100-word writing assignment. Now, it's equivalent to a 200-word writing assignment.
If you test out of Typing Club, it will be harder for you to earn points from reading alone. Before, a 5-star lesson on Typing Club was the same as reading 2.5 pages. Now, a 5-star lesson on Typing Club is the same as reading 5 pages. (And most people would agree that doing one lesson on Typing Club is easier than reading 5 pages). In short, there is not as much incentive to test out of Typing Club. Nonetheless, if you like you aren't learning anything from doing Typing Club, I encourage you to test out of it, and then you can earn all your homework points from reading.
